Photonics
The of the course "Photonics" discipline is to give in-depth knowledge of a wide range of processes associated with the generation, control, detection, and distribution of photons, as well as technologies and devices in which these phenomena occur. Discipline considers processes taking place in the classical optoelectronic components: lasers, light and photodiodes, emphasis is made on the processes that take place in the newly created quantum cascade lasers, fiber-optic transmission lines, photonic crystals and other devices, which are increasingly used in modern technology. Studying the course, students should deepen and generalize knowledge, acquired in the courses "Field Theory", "Optoelectronics", "Physics of electronic processes" and other courses that have examined physical processes involving photons. Students should acquire in-depth knowledge of the principles of basic photonic components, learn to identify both quantitatively and qualitatively their properties, to understand the scope and issues of further development of photonics devices, especially given the rapid development of nanotechnology.
