"Student Programming Laboratory" is an engineering student group of the Department of Electronic Engineering of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, created as a voluntary association of higher education students and university employees for scientific, innovative and applied activities in the field of programming. The group combines learning, practice, and teamwork, helping students deepen their knowledge of applied, system, and embedded programming and apply them to real educational and competitive tasks.
The main goal of the group is to systematize students' theoretical knowledge, develop engineering thinking, and prepare for independent creative and research activities. An important area of work is the development of Olympiad programming skills, participation in competitions, conferences, hackathons, engineering competitions, and representation of the university at various levels.
Within the group's activities, students participate in training under the International Collegiate Programming Contest program, solve problems on the Kattis platform, prepare for the IEEEXtreme Programming Competition, and attend specialized seminars. This format of work allows not only to practice algorithmic thinking, but also to form the discipline of team interaction, the ability to present results and work with applied engineering problems.
The work of the group is aimed at improving students' competencies in applied, system and Olympiad programming, preparing teams for competitions, undergoing training and participating in the Proggy-Buggy Contest, Kattis and IEEEXtreme competitions. The group's activities are also focused on applied research, creating innovative developments, preparing publications, patenting and popularizing engineering activities among students.
Communication between participants is organized via Google Chat, WhatsApp, Google Classroom and regular online conferences, and information about the group's activities is published on the department's website and in social networks. Despite the difficulties associated with the availability of power supply and communication, the group continues to work remotely or in person on the basis of computer classes of the Department of Electronic Engineering, and among the methods of motivating students, additional points are used, in particular.
The group's immediate plans include participation in the IEEEXtreme Programming Competition and the autumn Proggy-Buggy Contest. For the faculty and the university, this is not only an extracurricular initiative, but also an environment in which students develop technical culture, team spirit and readiness for modern engineering practice.
