Ramped Solid State Tesla Coil
Hello, first time post here. I wanted to share a ramped SSTC I recently completed. I built several prototypes over the course of 1.5 years. Starting out on protoboard then eventually made around 5 different PCB versions before landing on v7.
A mains synced ramped coil was a bit over my head at the time so I used this project to expand my understanding of electronics. I made a lot of mistakes but that is how you learn! My goal was to make the smallest coil with the longest output. So far I think this might be the most compact coil I have seen with respect to the arc output I achieved.
I made an overview video on YouTube if you would like more details. There is also a link in the video description to HV Forum going over the whole project as well as my schematic.
General Specs:
- IGBT Half bridge using FGH75T65SHD
- Secondary Fres is around 350kHz with arc load.
- Best arc length was 21in, typically arc length is around 16-18in. 9x the secondary coil height!
- Secondary is only 2n tall! Wound with 44awg wire.
- Input voltage is 120v from a variac
I linked the video as well as uploaded images. Hopefully everything displays correctly.
For my next project I am making a full bridge ramped DRSSTC for even longer arcs. Eventually I would like to make a QCWDRSSTC as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions, thank you!
edit: this posted showed as being auto removed at first. This is a brand new alt account. All my uploaded pictures are gone though.
